I was lucky enough to get my hair done a few weeks ago at Hair Couture by Vanessa, and it was clear to me, that even at only 21 years old she holds so much knowledge about the world of hair and is more than happy to share her knowledge to others. I am super excited to announce that Vanessa, as well her fellow hairdressers and stylists at Hair Couture are going the writing more blogs on the near future on all things hair for the NVBeauty blog.
I also highly recommend visiting Hair couture in Monza as they are incredibly talented and experienced, as well as always giving a warm, relaxing and friendly environment when you
enter the salon.
WHO ARE YOU AND HOW DID YOU ENTER THE WORLD OF HAIRDRESSERS?
Hi everyone, I'm Vanessa and I'm 21 years old. I have been working since 2018 in the hairdressing and aesthetics atelier "Hair Couture" in the city center of Monza, together with 9 other guys with whom I share the same passion for hairdressing, fashion and art. I graduated from the BBA Academy in Paderno Dugnano (MI) in 2017, my first work experience was in an Aldo Coppola salon where I did the alternation between school and work, before being hired. During the school period I understood that I wanted to have a different and more constructive approach to my work, for this reason I looked for the "right way" to be able to pursue the goals I had set myself. I was able to learn working techniques and professionalism that fascinated me right away. The Coppola style was my basis, but it is certainly only in the last 3 years that I have really “grown” and I have been able to train exactly as I have always wanted.
HAVE YOU ALWAYS KNOWN YOU WANT TO BE A HAIRDRESSER?
Yes and every day I think back to the path I have taken and I keep telling myself that I am a really lucky person, in addition to myself I also have to thank my parents who have always let me choose my path, without binding me. Being a hairstylist is not just knowing how to make folds or colors well, the key to standing out is always putting passion and art into everything you do. I always try to make a difference by doing my job in the best possible way and trying to combine my creativity with technique, transforming my service into a message of beauty. When I was flicking through fashion magazines as a child, I focused on hairstyle and realized that this had to be my life's work.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A PERSON WHO WANTS TO BECOME A HAIRDRESSER?
As I said before, in my opinion this work is in some ways an art form, do not be afraid to take risks, always look for novelty and constantly update yourself, also try to observe things from a different point of view. Understanding the customer and their needs is not always easy, it is important to follow thier idea and satisfy it but it is also important to have the courage to say "no" when the project is not in line with one's style, thus being able to be real stylists able to give their own mark.
HOW FREQUENTLY SHOULD I CUT MY HAIR?
This is a question to which there is no single and valid answer for everyone, because each of us has different needs. A short or more structured cut will certainly have more frequent maintenance, as well as periodic refreshing of all types of cuts is an excellent habit to always have healthy and beautiful hair.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A PERSON WHO DYES THE HAIR OFTEN? HOW CAN WE KEEP HEALTHY HAIR?
Always rely on professionals: you will not regret it. When skills and attention are lacking, there is always the risk of finding yourself dissatisfied with the work done. The world of coloring is very broad, there are techniques and colors that differ from the classic dye, allowing you to act in a less aggressive and healthier way for the hair. Find a trusted hairstylist who can advise and guide you. Another tip is to include reconstruction treatments in the hair-care, both at home and in the salon.
WHICH SHAMPOO AND BALM DO YOU RECOMMEND AND WHY?
In recent years I have found myself testing many products, the best brands that I can recommend are Olaplex, Shu Uemura, and “Redken”. The first comes from California and was born as a reconstruction treatment. The line consists of 7 products, each with a specific function. The N. 4 (shampoo) and 5 (conditioner) are two valid allies to be included in your hair-care, combined with product no. 3 (repair and strengthens) allows you to extend the professional reconstruction done in the salon. "Shu Uemura" instead was born in Japan, it combines nature and art. They are a true beauty ritual thanks to the rare and precious elements of the East. The haircare line consists of several references, each with a specific formulation and floral note for any hair need. Their "must have" is definitely the "Ultimate Reset" line, particularly suitable for hair that is damaged or stressed by chemical and / or mechanical services. The properties of rice and lotus flower rebuild the hair fiber giving new life to the hair. Another tip is the camellia oil from the "Essence Absolue" line. A product that moisturizes and protects, rich in essential lipids. The last suggestion is the hair-care by Redken. Born in NYC, a real turning point for the HAIR STYLE world thanks to its innovative products and continuous research. The color extend line is ideal on colored or bleached hair to keep the color always shiny and the all soft line is recommended on dry and destabilized hair thanks to its nourishing power with argon oil. I love the "extreme" line, named best seller as the ALLURE 2017 reconstructing shampoo. It guarantees strong and healthy hair thanks to biotin which is a vitamin known for its fortifying properties.
